The First Dance

A man sat on a chair in his living room by a fireplace. A little girl with blonde hair ran to him and sat on his lap. "Mommy when did you meet daddy?" The man smiled at his six year old daughter.

"When I was in high school. We were in the same classes." The man answered. The little girl's eyes brightened. "Do you want to hear about when I met daddy and when we learned about you?" the little girl nodded excitedly. "Ok honey."

Hex had just moved into town a few days earlier. He'd finally been declared and adult. The adoption agency had no control over him anymore. He bought a cheap house in the center of town and put the few possessions he owned into it. He was glad the house came already furnished. He woke at 6:00 AM so he could shower and prepare for school. He had to get to the school early so he could become enrolled and start classes that day.

After spending half an hour in the school office enrolling himself he was sent on his way to his first class. He walked to class and talked to the teacher. He sat at his desk right as the bell rang. He tried not to seem nervous as the other students milled in. he looked at the books the teacher had given him. He jumped when someone touched his shoulder. He looked at the person. "Hi, I'm Blake."

Hex looked at the boy and could swear he knew him from somewhere. "Blake?" Then it hit him. "Blake Smith?"

Blake nodded. "Yeah, how do you know my name? Better yet, how do you know me by that name? No one knows that name. Have you been staking me?" Blake looked angry.

"No, Blake it's me. It's Hex, we knew each other when we were kids. But then you…you left." Blake sat by Hex.

"Oh my god, Hex Harper. I never thought I would see you again." Blake leaned across the aisle and hugged Hex. "How are you man? Did you finally get a family?"

"No, since I just turned 18 I left. I didn't want that life anymore. So I emancipated myself and moved here. I live in the center of town." Hex smiled with pride. He never woulda guessed that he would run into an old friend. "So what is your name now?"

"Blake Fisher, I've been a Fisher for 10 years now. I've never been so happy in my life. This family, they're great. You should meet them Hex."

"Maybe later dude. I go too much on my plate right now." Blake nodded and the both paid attention to the teacher when he started the lecture.

"Wow! That is so cool mommy." Hex smiled at his daughter. "What was it like when I showed up? Were you and daddy happy?"

"Why wouldn't we be happy to learn we were having you Rouge? We love you so much." He kissed her head. "Daddy and I had been seeing each other for a few months before I got sick. Daddy was worried something was really wrong with me."

For the past month after Hex and Blake had sex Hex has been puking nonstop the same time every day. It happened every day at 4:30 PM. The latest time of puking was when Blake came to Hex's for a visit. Both men were talking when Hex immediately bolted up and ran to the bathroom. A few seconds later Blake stood and went to check on his boyfriend. "Hex you ok? You've been doing this a lot babe."

Hex flushed the toilet. "Yeah I'm fine. It just happens once a day. I'm perfectly fine." Blake kneeled by him and shook his head. "What?"

"Babe I want you to get checked out. You can be really sick." He let Hex lean on him.

"If I'm sick it's your fault. I started puking a month after we…oh no." Hex paled so much he looked like a white sheet. "Oh god, Blake I might be pregnant."

"What? But we used a condom Hex. It's not possible." Hex stood and went to his room. He laid on his side on the bed. "Hex I'm sorry."

"If you're so sorry go buy some pregnancy tests. I need to know, if it's been true I'm about a month and our kid is severely deprived. I haven't eaten much lately." Hex touched his belly and wondered if he was gonna have a baby.

Blake sat by him. "I'll be right back. And if we are pregnant I want to say I'm sorry and that I will be by your side always." He kissed Hex then left.

When Blake returned 20 minutes later he found Hex asleep in bed. He sat on the edge of the bed and shook Hex gently. "Hex, babe wake up. I'm back." He smiled when Hex rolled away from him. He set the bag on the floor at the end of the bed. "Come on Hex, wake up babe." He kissed Hex's cheek then backed off a little as Hex rolled onto his back and looked at him. "Hey, I'm back. I bought three tests."

Hex rubbed his eyes. He smiled at Blake. "Hi." He sat up and Blake hugged him. "Blake what is it?"

"I love you Hex. And if we are pregnant I will be happy to be a dad. And if we're not I can wait til you're ready." He let Hex go and retrieved the bag from the floor. He gave it to Hex. "I'll wait here ok?" Hex nodded and took the bag into the bathroom.

A few minutes later he came out. "We need to wait 5 minutes for the results." He sat by Blake and leaned on him. When Blake put a hand over his stomach he let him and leaned into him more. "Blake, if this is happening we need to get jobs, better than what we have. I can't be a janitor at the school if I'm pregnant." Blake nodded. 5 minutes later both men walked into the bathroom and looked at the pregnancy tests on the counter. Each had a plus sign. "oh god, Blake. We're having a baby."

Blake hugged Hex close. "Oh Hex, I'll always be here. And I hope you'll let me help with this baby." Hex rested his head on Blake's chest and cried. Blake rubbed his back in a soothing manner. "Relax Hex, it's ok honey. I know you're scared, but we can do this."

"I'm gonna get fat." Hex cried more at the idea of losing his figure. Blake just smiled and held his boyfriend close. "Blake I want to keep our baby." he looked at Blake hoping he agreed. When Blake nodded he hugged Blake tight.

"You were a special gift to daddy and me." Hex kissed his daughter's head. "We were so happy to find out about you. when I was 6 months pregnant we went to see what gender you were."

Hex woke to his child kicking his organs around. He rubbed his belly and smiled. "Hey kid, we're gonna see what type of clothes to buy for you today." The baby kicked his hand and he smiled. "What are we gonna don once you're born baby? It's hard enough that daddy and I live in two different houses. Well I want you to know that daddy and I love you so much." He kissed his hand then placed his hand to his stomach. A few minutes later he got out of bed and prepared to shower.

Half an hour later he walked back into his bedroom in nothing but a towel. He noticed as of late that when he took his showers the baby would calm down and fall asleep. And if he touched his belly right after a shower he would get a sharp jab or kick to where his hand was lying. It seemed his baby hated to be disturbed while it slept. He smiled and dressed.

20 minutes later he looked up as his front door opened. He smiled when he saw Blake. Blake walked over and kissed him. "Hey babe, how is our baby doing?" Blake sat by him and put a hand over Hex's belly. His touch was shunned away when the baby gave a strong kick. "You took a shower recently didn't you."

Hex smiled. "Yeah, about 15 minutes ago. The baby hasn't woken yet." He caressed his belly gently. "So today we learn the gender of this little one. What do you want a son or daughter?"

"Either." Hex looked confused. "I don't care what it is, I want it to be healthy. I just want it."

Hex teared up. "Oh Blake." He wiped his eyes as tears threatened to fall. Blake hugged him and he sighed. "Damn hormones."

An hour later they walked into the clinic. Hex sat down as Blake signed them in. he rubbed his belly as the baby shifted and kicked gently. "Relax honey, it's ok." The baby calmed some and he sighed. "That's my good baby." Blake sat by him and kissed him. "This is it Blake. And I think the baby is nervous. It keeps moving around and kicking."

Blake leaned over and kissed Hex's belly. "Relax little one, we're supposed to be nervous not you. You already know what you are, we don't." both men looked up when Hex's name was called. Hex stood with effort and went back to an exam room. He waited for the doctor as Blake played with the baby.

When the doctor walked in Blake stopped and held Hex's hand in his own. "Hello boys, so today we learn the gender of the baby." both men nodded. "Good, so Hex if you'll lie back we'll get started." Hex laid on his back and sighed as the baby shifted to get comfortable. The doctor put the gel on his belly and moved the wand over it. The doctor sighed. "I'm sorry boys but the baby says this is a no go. It's back is to us. I can't tell the gender this way."

Hex nodded. "That's ok, if the baby doesn't want us to know we can wait. Right Blake?" Blake nodded and kissed him. "So is it healthy at least?"

"Very actually, the heart rate is good and from what I can see it will be a big baby. already it's roughly 6 pounds." Blake smiled and knew at that moment he was really gonna be a dad. "So any questions?" Both boys shook their head. "Ok well you are free to go. Make an appointment for a month from now and I'll see you then." Both boys nodded and they left.

"Mommy tell me about when I was born."

"Ok princess. Well I was 18 and getting ready for prom night." Hex smiled at the memory. Hex laid in bed; he'd woken a few minutes ago and was too comfortable to move. He rubbed his belly as the baby shifted a little. "Morning precious, so today is special. Me and daddy are going to prom tonight. We're gonna dance and party. Then in two days we graduate, just wait two more days before you're born ok?" When the baby did nothing he took it as an agreement. "You're my great baby."

He stood to go make breakfast. As he got into the kitchen he groaned and clutched the side of his belly. "Shit, bad baby. I thought we agreed you would wait?" The baby kicked at his hand. Once the contraction ended Hex went to the cabinet and got down a package of oatmeal. He grabbed a bowl and started to make it.

45  minutes went by and he still hadn't had another contraction. He'd just started to think he wasn't in labor when another contraction stopped him in his tracks. He moaned as the contraction passed. He had decided that he would wait til after prom to tell Blake about the contractions. He and Blake had planned this months ago when he was 7 months pregnant. He wasn't going to let a few contractions ruin it. And from what he heard he had no reason to worry. When a person goes into labor with their first child it can take up to 10 hours before they are ready to push.

He went back to the living room and sat on the couch. He sighed when the baby kicked. In a few hours Blake was taking him to prom. As the hours passed Hex would bite his bottom lip with each contraction. He noticed they were getting stronger but not much. He figured the baby wouldn't come til prom was over with the way things were going.

~~~~
Hex had just left the house with Blake. They sat together in the car. Hex continued to rub his stomach as he hid his contractions from Blake. "Hex, honey what's wrong? You're acting weird. Is everything ok?" Hex nodded and Blake took his hand off the steering wheel and laid it on Hex's leg. "I love you so much baby. Just think soon we will be parents of a beautiful baby. Maybe it will have my eyes and your smile."
Hex smiled. "Yeah maybe, it may even have your hair." Hex rubbed his belly as the baby kicked at his hand. He groaned at another contraction. They were about 15 minutes apart.
"Hex you ok?" Blake looked at him for a minute. Hex nodded. "Then why the groan?"
"The baby just kicked my bladder around a little. It's making me need to go to the bathroom really bad." Blake nodded and looked back at the road. "So are you ready to be a dad? You ready to be woken at all hours of the night by this lovely angel?"
"Yeah, I can't wait to meet our baby. It may be rough at first but I will be happy to meet our sweet baby." He touched Hex's belly as it shifted with the baby. "Does the baby always move that much?" Hex nodded. "How do you stand it honey?" Hex feared he would get a contraction right as Blake touched his stomach but he got lucky.
"You get used to it. And you just know that there is nothing you can do about it. The baby will move, no matter what it will move and kick and jab. But I see it as a way of knowing it's ok. The only time I hate it is when I'm trying to sleep. That is when the baby decides to move the most."
"My poor honey. If I knew I would help in some way, but I can't." He pulled into the school parking lot. "So you ready to dance?" Hex nodded as Blake parked the car. "Just think in a few weeks we'll be parents to a beautiful baby." Hex leaned over and kissed Blake.
"Mommy what is prom?" the little girl asked.
Hex kissed her. "Well Rouge, it's a dance. Your daddy and I went dancing." He smiled at his daughter. "Do you want to dance Rouge?" Rouge nodded and Hex stood still holding his daughter. He walked to the stereo system and turned it on. He smiled as 'Don't take the girl' played. He slowly dance while holding rouge in his arms. Rouge laid her head on his shoulder. "Me and daddy danced like this that night. We'd been dancing for 2 hours when you decided you wanted to be born at that very second." He kissed her and danced more.
Hex groaned as a contraction ripped through him and his water broke. He felt unbearable pressure in his birth canal. Blake tried to get his attention. "Hex honey, talk to me. Are you ok?" Hex said nothing but led Blake to the bathroom.
Blake tried to talk again. Hex put a finger on Blake's lips. "I've been having contractions all day alright. That was the strongest so far and yeah my water just broke. But now you need to get a teacher cause I need to push. The baby is coming right now." He groaned again. He leaned on the sink. He tightened his hand on the edge of the sink. Blake walked up to him and touched his arm. "Go dammit!" Blake ran out and he tried to keep his cool. A few seconds later Blake ran back in with a teacher.
"Hex what's going on?" Hex sighed angrily that either Blake didn't explain or the teacher was a dumb ass. He explained as fast as possible. He screamed as another contraction pushed the baby down farther. He unbuttoned his pants and Blake immediately helped him remove them. Then Blake helped him to the floor. The teacher kneeled between Hex's legs. "Push Hex, push hard." Hex pushed as hard as he could. He felt the baby go farther down towards the world. He let out a curse as the baby kicked the bottom of his stomach. "Good Hex, do it again." Blake massaged Hex's back as well as he could.
The entire time Blake had so much running through his head. He should've listened to his instincts earlier when he felt the baby kick and Hex's abdomen tensed. Something told him not to believe Hex when he said he felt nothing. Now he was kicking himself for it cause his baby was gonna be born in a probably unsanitary bathroom. "You're doing great Hex. Soon we'll meet our little one."
Hex pushed again and felt a burning sensation in his anus. He knew his baby was crowning. He winced as he tried to breathe. "Oh crap, it hurts so much Blake!" Blake kissed Hex's neck. "Get it out, please."
"We can't unless you push Hex. Now push!" Hex pushed with some encouraging words from his teacher and Blake. There was a pop as the head came out. Hex took deep breaths as the teacher made sure there wasn't a cord around the neck of his child. The teacher told Hex to push again. As Hex pushed he felt the urge to scream but stayed quiet. The burning got worse as the shoulders passed. Once the baby was out he leaned back against Blake. He didn't even notice Blake give the teacher his coat to keep the baby warm. "Blake do you have your phone?" Blake nodded. "Call for an ambulance."
Hex looked at his baby. "Is it ok? Why isn't it crying?"
"Relax Hex, she's fine. She is breathing and doing just fine." The teacher handed Hex his daughter as Blake put his phone back in his pocket.
Hex smiled at his daughter. "Hi." He felt tears come to his eyes. "You're gorgeous." He smiled as Blake touched his daughter's cheek. He saw the red carnation on the lapel. "Let's name her Rouge." Blake kissed the mother of his child as they heard the ambulance pull into the school parking lot. The teacher left them as he went to get to paramedics. "Hi Rouge. So you had to be born on prom night didn't you? You couldn't wait til after or maybe til tomorrow?"
Rouge looked at him and he kissed her cheek. "She is set in her ways like her momma. She gets what she wants just like you do." Blake smiled as his daughter grabbed his finger. "Hey princess, so you're the one who has been kicking you mom like crazy huh? Well you're beautiful."
Both boys looked up as the paramedics came in and cut the cord that connected Hex and his daughter. Rouge was wrapped in a blanket and handed to Blake as the paramedics helped Hex onto the stretcher. Blake kissed his daughter as she cooed at him. After the paramedics strapped Hex down Blake handed Rouge back to her mother. Hex was pushed out of the bathroom and into the gym.
He blushed as a round of applause and cheers could be heard. He held his daughter tighter as she fussed over the new sounds and lights. As the paramedics led him to the ambulance he passed friends who congratulated him and promised to visit him at the hospital later. Hex was loaded into the ambulance and Blake followed not far behind in his car.
Blake walked into the house to see his husband and his daughter dancing together. "Hey, I'm home." Hex stopped dancing and looked at his husband. "Hey don't stop on my account, you two look adorable." He walked to them and put his arms around them. He started to dance with his daughter and the man he loved. "So what did you two do while I was gone?"
"Mommy told me about when I was born." Rouge replied with a smile as she kissed her father's cheek. "He said I was a very impatient baby."
Blake smiled. "You were. I remember how you were once we got to the hospital." Rouge's eyes gleamed. "You want me to tell you huh?" She nodded. "Ok princess."
Blake stood next to Hex's hospital bed as he slept. He watched Rouge as she slept in her bassinette. He noticed Hex's belly was definitely smaller. He found it hard to believe that most of the weight Hex had gained was their daughter. They had weighed her and learned she was 9 pounds and 8 ounces. She was 21 inches long.
Blake walked to the bassinette and rubbed his finger on his daughter's cheek. "Hey baby girl. You made your mommy so tired. He's passed out on the bed." He smiled when Rouge opened her eyes. "Hey honey." He kissed her cheek. "You really had to make an entrance huh? Your mommy is right, you are very special." He picked her up and held her close. At that exact moment Hex woke up, Blake looked at him and smiled. "Hey honey."
"Hey, how's Rouge?" To answer him Blake set Rouge in Hex's arms. Rouge looked at her mother and Hex smiled. "Hi princess, you're beautiful." He smiled when Rouge put her tiny fist around his hand. Hex looked at Blake. "I'm sorry."
"For what?" Blake sat on the edge of the hospital bed.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you I was in labor. I wanted to go to prom, not be stuck in a bed as nature took over. Yeah I was afraid when I had her in the bathroom, but I…I am glad I did. If I hadn't we wouldn't have been the bell of ball, so to speak." Hex laughed.
Blake smiled. "It's ok, I can understand. Rouge is gonna take over our life, in a good way. We have two days of school left, but I already talked to the principle and he agreed that we could pick our diplomas up tomorrow afternoon once you get out of here." Blake smiled at his daughter again.
"The next day mommy and I went back to school for our diploma's. We even brought you with us. You seemed to love all our teachers. It seems you recognized their voices from before you were born."
Hex and Blake walked into the school with baby Rouge sleeping in her mother's arms. Hex was leaning on Blake as he limped to the office. He smiled when the secretary saw Rouge. "Hi Mrs. James." Mrs. James walked around the desk and hugged them both. "So this is Rouge."
"She is adorable Hex. You and Blake are truly blessed, just wait that little girl is older, she will make you both so happy." Hex smiled and kissed his daughter. "May I hold her?" Hex nodded and handed his daughter over. Rouge opened her eyes, looked at who was holding her, then went back to sleep. Mrs. James laughed. "Well if you will follow me the principal would like to see you both." Hex took his daughter back and followed Mrs. James to the principal's office. Blake knocked and there was a silent acknowledgement.
Blake opened the door and let Hex pass. He closed the door and they were pointed to a set of chairs. Blake helped Hex sit then sat himself. "Hello boys, how are you feeling?"
"Good." Blake replied as Hex said "Tired."
The principal laughed. "Well first I want to congratulate you both on the birth of your daughter." Hex and Blake looked at Rouge when she whimpered in her sleep. Hex held her closer and she calmed. "She is adorable. Well I must say that this was the most interesting prom I have ever been to thanks to you three."
Hex smiled. "Yeah, sorry about that. But this little girl made up her mind." Hex looked at his daughter with loving eyes. "She is very set in her ways." The principal smiled and opened a drawer in her desk. She pulled out two envelops and handed them to Blake since Hex's hands were full. "That is your diplomas and a little something the teachers put together to help with your daughter."
Blake opened Hex's envelope and saw a check for $2,000. "Oh my god, this is…I can't thank you enough." He showed it to Hex who gasped. His shock caused Rouge to wake. She cried trying to get her parents attention. Hex kissed and let her suck on his pinky. "This is the best thing we've gotten."
"Yeah thank you so much. That will help with the few things we couldn't buy yet." The principal nodded and both boys left.
"See Rogue, you're very special to mommy and me. No matter what happens we love you honey." Blake kissed his daughter before kissing his husband. "I love both of you so much." The kisses continued til everyone was kissed. They continued to dance and smile. As Hex turned you could see a slight bump to where his flat stomach had been.
