Summers Echo

Permalink Closed

I smiled as I dressed for the picnic that day. I am now only 2 weeks away from my due date and Trevor is taking me to the park to picnic at our spot. I rubbed my belly as the baby within decided to attack. I laughed at the baby’s antics as I finished dressing. I wore a pain of blue jeans and a yellow t-shirt. On my way downstairs I grabbed my sunglasses. I ran into his father on the way to the kitchen. “Hi daddy. What are your plans today?”

“Well the guys and I have a CD signing at the library two towns over.” I nodded. “So I heard that Trevor is taking you for a picnic in the park?”

“Yeah we’re going as a last romantic effort before the baby comes. We know that once the baby gets here our romance will be effectively locked up for a while.” I smiled as dad hugged me then his hands went to each side of my stomach. “The baby is all sorts of excited today. It has been ever since I woke this morning.” He nodded and gave the orb that had become my stomach an affectionate rub. “Well I better go find Trevor. We’re leaving soon.” I hugged him close then went on a Trevor search. I smiled as I saw Trevor. I snuck up him the best I could in my condition.

Trevor jumped when my belly touched his back. I laughed and put my arms around him. He turned and looked at me before putting his arms around my neck. “Hey babe. How are you feeling?” I smiled wide. “Ah, we’re having a good day today.” I nodded as his hands cupped my belly. “And how is our baby? Is he or she being good?”

“So far, might get pissy later but acting like an angel for now.” I kissed him hard and with passion. “So how long before we go to the park?”

Trevor looked at the clock. “About 30 minutes. Are you sure you can walk that far and back seeing as you’re due in two weeks?” I nodded happily. “Alright. I trust you, but if I notice you faltering I will call your dad and have him pick us up.” I nodded and put my head on his shoulder. “So tell me something, do you think you are carrying a boy or girl? I think boy.”

I thought hard. “My heart says a girl. But my brain says that the kicks I receive are too hard to be female.” I laughed. “I am voting girl.” He nodded and held me close. 30 minutes later we started the trek to the park. I smiled when we reached our destination. The whole way there Trevor refused to let me carry anything saying I was carrying enough of a load already. I just pouted and walked slightly ahead of him. When we got to our spot I sat on the weirdo tree root that popped out of the ground and made a perfect bench. I watched Trevor as he set out the blanket then the picnic basket in the middle.

He finally came over to me. “Come on; let me help you sit down.” I nodded and sat happily with him. He sat behind me and I leaned into him proudly. “So are you ready to be a mom?” I nodded. “Good, I can’t wait to see what we created! Will it have my eyes and your hair? Will it have your facial structure or mine? So many questions that will soon be answered.”

“Will it have my photophobia?” I said in a whisper. “I don’t want to give my baby that. It’s torture enough that I have it. I don’t want the baby to go through this.” I rubbed my belly gently as I looked at it through the blackish hue from my sunglasses.

“Hey don’t get all mopey on me mister. This is a fun day not a mopey one. If you cheer up I will get you an ice cream cone.” I looked at him and laughed a little. “There, that’s the Echo I know and love. I hate to see you mopey. Seeing you mopey makes me want to buy you anything until you’re happy again.” I turned slightly and kissed him. “That was very nice. I liked that.” I kissed him again. “Very nice.”

I laughed and leaned on him again. His hands snaked around my waist and rested over our baby. I looked at my belly as the baby practiced for the Olympics before birth. I laughed as she kicked at my hand. “Babe, the baby thinks we should get our ice cream now. We were very good and deserve something sweet.” I could feel the vibrations from Trevor’s laughter through my spine, I bet even the baby could feel it judging by the way it’s kicking.

“Alright, stay here and I will go get ice cream.” I nodded and sighed as his embrace left. I sat Indian style on the picnic blanket with my hands folded over my belly. He leaned down and kissed me. “I’ll hurry back.” I smiled up at him and watched him go.

I sighed and looked at my belly. “Well baby, soon you’re gonna be controlling my life. Soon the 3 AM feedings will start and so will the stinky diaper changes. I can’t wait to hold you in my arms right after your birth. I cannot wait to look into your eyes and see the wisdom hidden there.” I rubbed my belly affectionately. “I love you so much little one.”

“We both love you.” I jumped a little at the sound of his voice. “Oh honey, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you like that. I thought you heard me coming.” I shook my head with a smile as he sat behind me. “Well I got you Death By Chocolate, seeing as you have been craving chocolate your whole pregnancy.”

I smiled at him. “You know me so well. Thank you.” I leaned back and kissed him passionately. “Thank you.” He handed me the ice cream and we just sat there in each others arms. I heard someone coming towards us and looked. I was shocked to see on old friend from dad’s touring days. I smiled up at Dan. “Dan! Hi! I would get up to hug you but the ice cream is too nummy to give up and the baby will attack me if I move.”

Dan kneeled and hugged me. “You got so big since I saw you last Echo. So who is the father of this baby?” He asked with a hand over my stomach.

Trevor growled a little, I could feel the vibrations through my back. “I am.” Dan looked behind me at Trevor who put his arms around me protectively. “Trevor Williamson.” Trevor extended a hand to shake. I smiled encouragingly at Dan. “I’m also his fiancée.”

“Alright you two stop this anger or I will get mopey.” Trevor kissed my neck. “Dan join us! We have so much to catch up on!” I practically yanked Dan down onto the blanket to sit across from us. I smiled as he laughed. I looked at Trevor over my shoulder. “Babe, this is the man who helped dad when he was pregnant with me. He was the first person I told about our little one.”

Dan laughed. “You didn’t tell per say, instead you hid in my spot on the bus so that you could keep your pregnancy from your parents a little longer.” I nodded. “How is the baby anyway?”

“Great! I am due in 2 weeks and have no idea what I am carrying but happy all the same. All I know is that this baby can kick hard! I keep getting attacked with kidney shots and bladder punches.” I rubbed my belly with my free hand as I still nibbled on my ice cream cone. We sat talking for hours til Dan gave us a ride home.
