Andy stayed in the hospital overnight after giving birth while I went back to the hotel. The next morning after examining Andy, the doctor gave us the ok to go home.
Though he insisted he was fine and wanted to come to work, I gave Andy the next week off. The poor guy had just given birth to a 13 lb, 9 oz baby boy and I had been there to see what a struggle it had been. I was glad it was him who had gone through the ordeal and not me.
When Andy returned to work we immediately got to work looking for the next product to sell. We spent the next couple months looking at various products, looking for just the right thing we could successfully market.
It was Andy that found what we ended up bidding on. It was a new, male prenatal vitamin supplement. We sat down with my boss and Andy described the product along with all the endorsements it had received from the medical community. Its manufacturer was looking for a marketing/advertising agency to get the new product onto store shelves.
My boss went over the research reports provided by the manufacturer and was impressed. He too thought it would be an easy sell for our agency. He gave Andy and I the green light to put in a bid for the job.
We immediately set to work. The bid was due in 3 months so we had a little time on our hands but once again, Andy and I spent a lot of time together late nights at the office. This was the first medical product our company had ever gone after so we had our work cut out for us.
I was feeling good about the bid Andy and I were putting together until I talked to a friend of mine at a different company. Apparently they were putting in a bid too and his company was already successful in the medical field, helping to launch countless prescriptions, vitamins and supplements.
That night over a late night dinner at the office, I told Andy what I had learned. I told him if we wanted any shot at this project we had to give ourselves an edge.
Andy leaned back in his chair and scratched the slight belly he still had through his shirt. He suddenly shot forward and smacked the table. His idea completely caught me off guard yet it was brilliant. He offered to get pregnant again!
I sat there for a minute, taking in what he had just said. His idea would definitely give us an edge the competition didn't have. It made a lot of sense but I couldn't believe Andy was willing to get pregnant again!
I had a lot of questions: How would he get pregnant? What would he do with the baby? And was he sure he wanted to go through a pregnancy again and so soon at that? I pointed out that he was still getting back in shape from his first pregnancy and had only had the baby 3 months ago.
Andy told me he had a friend who was single but wanted to have a baby. He was a firefighter so he couldn't carry the baby without being assigned to a desk job while he was pregnant and he didn't want to do that. He had looked into surrogacy but that was too expensive for him but now, there was a reason for Andy to offer to have a baby for him.
He told me that being pregnant hadn't been too bad and he'd be willing to do it again especially if it was to help a friend and himself out at the same time. As for his body, well he was still young and he was confident that he could get his old body back after a second pregnancy.
Like I said, it was a brilliant idea but I had to ask Andy again if he was sure. He nodded emphatically so I said ok. We called it a night at that point. Andy was going to go see his friend and let him know his offer once he left. After all, time was of the essence.
The next morning I was pacing my office waiting for Andy to arrive. He showed up a little later than usual with a big grin on his face. I pulled him into my office and shut the door.
Andy started right in. He'd gone to see his friend, Mike and made him his offer. Mike readily agreed. I asked Andy when he was going to get pregnant and he laughed. He told me with a little luck, he already was. He and Mike had spent the night together trying to get Andy pregnant the "old fashioned" way. In a few weeks we'd all know if it worked.
Those few weeks seemed to crawl. Andy and I continued to work on the bid in the mean time. I found myself constantly staring at him, trying to see any signs of pregnancy. I didn't see any but it was still too early.
Finally one night when we were alone once more in the office, Andy took a pregnancy test. We stood around in the bathroom waiting for the allotted time to pass. The timer on Andy's phone beeped after 3 minutes and he grabbed for the stick. He was pregnant.
We were both so excited! Andy called Mike to let him know and he was over the moon.
3 months pregnant
Andy's idea paid off! As soon as he told the board of the pharmaceutical company he was pregnant I could tell we had the deal in the bag. We didn't have time to celebrate though because Andy had a doctor's appointment right after our meeting.
Since we'd taken one car, I accompanied Andy to the appointment. Mike was working so he couldn't be there. Andy invited me into the exam room where he would be having his first ultrasound for this pregnancy.
The doctor came in and got to work. Andy rolled up his shirt. I noticed that he was already showing a little bit. The doctor spread jelly over Andy's abdomen and started the ultrasound. He "Hmmm'd" and "Haaa'd" as he moved the wand around Andy's belly then announced that Andy was expecting twins!
Andy took the news surprisingly well. As soon as he was done with the exam he sent Mike a text letting him know the big news. The firefighter quickly responded with an emoticon smiley face.
5 months pregnant
We already had two large pharmacy chains lined up to sell our product. The fact that Andy was obviously pregnant and told them he was taking the vitamin himself was a big selling point.
Andy was big already. He was about the size he was during his first pregnancy when he was 7 months along. At his last doctor's appointment, the babies were estimated to be around 5 lbs each.
7 months pregnant
We'd added another two chains of stores to our list, one more than the manufacturer had required so we were golden. With the pressure off our backs (well mine, not Andy's), my boss gave Andy and I a week off.
I had a beach house I rarely used so I took this time to actually use it. Since the house had plenty of room, I invited Andy and Mike to join me which they did.
We spent a lot of time at the beach. It was early September so there weren't a lot of people there but it was still warm and enjoyable. We all worked on our tans and I couldn't help but notice how good Andy's belly looked with some added color. Mike wasn't bad to look at either.
One afternoon I went out for a run on the beach while Mike and Andy stayed home. I was gone for about an hour and when I returned I grabbed a bottle of water and walked out onto the deck to relax.
The deck overlooked the pool. I heard some noise below and looked down. There were Andy and Mike having sex on the pool deck, Mike plowing into Andy at a quick pace. They each had their own room and I didn't know they were intimate with each other but apparently they were. Andy was thrashing his head back and fourth, obviously enjoying the action. I heard pregnancy hormones made you horny and this seemed to be the case.
9 months pregnant
As our proposal for the new drug continued to grow, so did Andy. One of the big selling points on the drug was that it would help the man gain enough weight to deal with the pregnancy.Sometime there had been reported problems of men not being strong enough to carry a baby to terms because of the way that the baby took nutrients from the man’ body.It was very different then in the case of a female pregnancy.
Andy was an asset to our presentation because of how big he had gotten. The doctor reported that he was carrying 12 lbs twins and it showed.I couldn’t imagine where he was finding cloths to wear to the office, but he looked like he was going to pop at any minute. The polo shirts he wore must have been extra long, because even with his huge firefighter filled belly, it was still covered.I could tell he had given up on paternity chinos because the waist band just rode under his belly.
As part of our proposal we added pictures of Andy in ever stage of his pregnancy. Now that he was a week away from his due date, we decided to take the final pictures, incase he went early. We all got to the photo studio and went about the process. The first pictures were of Andy in ‘work cloths’ showing that he was healthy enough to go to work daily because he took the prenatal vitamins. His belly was huge as he sat at the prop desk pretending to be on the phone.Lucky for us the babies were very active and his belly was constantly moving, so we got some great video of his belly alive with healthy babies.
The next shots were Andy in just a pair of shorts which were progress shots. We positioned him in the same spot as we had every month, so that we could do a belly progression video. As we lined him up with the camera we started to compare this month to the previous months. It was obvious that is due date was approaching. His belly was dropping daily and looked painful. If you looked closely you could see the babies heads at the base of his stretched skin.He had some stretch marks this time, which we would airbrush out.
The next scene was a delivery scene. This one freaked Andy out a little bit, as his last delivery was still fresh on his mind.We got Andy up onto a delivery table, put a hospital gown on him and got his legs in the stirrups.I was getting flash backs looking at him in this position. We could all tell he was nervous, because the babies were moving around a lot in his belly. We reenacted a few pushing scenes and got the footage we needed. One of the art directors then asked if we could do one with his belly our from under the gown.Andy reluctantly obliged and showed everyone his belly again. This really looked like a true delivery scene.
Delivery
I got to the office a little early on Monday and was looking over the photos from the shoot.I looked at them and still couldn’t believe it was 3 weeks ago and Andy still hadn’t gone into labor.About 20 minutes into my editing of the pictures, I got a text, Andy was at the hospital with Mike.He wanted me to come ASAP.
I got in my car and drove as fast as I could.I got to registration, and they said he was already in delivery. The nurse threw me some scrubs and I quickly got changed. As she walked me down the all, I could have predicted what room Andy was in.I remember the groans and moans from last time. They filled the hall, and I got nervous I was going to miss it.
I rushed into the room and saw Andy on the table. His legs were in the stirrups and his gown was tucked up under his pecs.It looked just like the photos we were going to use in the ad.Andy could have been an actor the looked so similar.
Mike was at his side wiping the sweat from his head, and I could see the relief on Andy’s face as I walked in.It made me feel good to know I meant that much to him.The nurse had her hand on his belly waiting to feel the start of the next contraction in order to help him push.I could see the belly begin to bulge and move as the contraction started.Andy began to groan and everyone in the room began counting backwards from ten as the young man curled up around his belly pushing the first baby out.
After twenty minutes of pushing the doctor told Mike to come down to the foot of the bed and watch his first baby being born.I looked up in the observation mirror and saw the head hanging as Andy’s opening. With each push the head would bulge out a little more and retreat a bit as he stopped pushing.Andy began to get frustrated as the lack of progress.I gave him a ‘you can do it look’ and he pushed again with more effort. With that push the first baby’s head escaped his body.Andy took a deep breath and relaxed a little bit.We all watched as the baby turned inside of Andy and heard him groan as the next contraction started.Andy pushed 3 more times and got the baby out.It was born, followed by a gush of amniotic fluid.Andy immediate slumped down on the bed, relieved it was over.
The doctor brought the baby over to Mike, who held him for a little bit and handed him off to Andy. The doctor suggested Andy start to nurse the baby so that the contractions would start again. The doctor peeled off his gloves and left.
For another 20 minutes Andy nursed his new baby, and waited for contractions. The nurse felt around his still full belly and determined the second baby was ready to go as soon as he was. With that Andy felt the first contraction and the nurse called the doctor back in.
Andy pushed for another hour and got the second baby out. This one came a lot easier, as Andy had already gone thru the exercise of stretching himself out.
The nurse came by and congratulated Andy on delivering the twins, and said “wow this must be a good pay out for you”.
Andy questioned her, and he let him know that he had a friend who was good at pregnancies and deliveries and started doing it as a surrogate; she assumed he had done the same thing, and that he was making good money because it was twins.
Nice story, a great work sequel of another great work. Even if this is a sequel you made it "fresh" not some old thing pulled by the hairs. Congratulations.
