The daylight seeped in slowly, to find her sitting up in bed, slumped over, her head in her hands. Her feet were on the floor but her body felt numb and her heart beat, but it hurt her to even think about life. She felt like everything had been drained from her as she moved the covers back. Today was a day she thought she’d never see, and still didn’t know if she wanted to. Standing up weakly, she touched her abdomen, flat and soft and tear slipped down her cheeks. It had all been so simple with her and Danny; he swooped in like a white knight and carried her heart away. Love had been great with him, and she had everything she could ever have wanted. How did that reconcile with the way she felt today, barely alive and hardly real?
The curtain peeling back pulled her out of the daze she was in. She looked up to find him standing there, smiling o weakly at her. “Marie, I’m here, I’m so sorry I couldn’t get them to let me come home I’m just so glad you…” He stopped, cutting himself short, not knowing what to say.
“Danny…” The whisper was all she could manage to muster. As she touched him, her fingers barely registered the fact that he was really there. As he held her she felt the reality crash around her and the pain come back in the warmth of his arms. She crumbled in his strong embrace and sobbed, the pain throbbing within her, from her heart and from the baby that was so suddenly gone. She cried for what seemed like hours and when she finally looked around, they were on that little bed together, under blankets, in that cold and sterile room. With him, she felt the first twinge of her old life return to her. There were no words for a time like this, her brain fought to even be coherent. They would come at some point but not now. Again, she brushed her abdomen and felt only gut wrenching sorrow. She didn’t talk for days, didn’t eat or drink. Not unless Danny cared for her. She would obediently and mindlessly do as he asked. She was so dazed that all she did was what was asked, and she couldn’t bear to think or more importantly to feel.
She awoke a week or so later, looking around her, noticing that the all too familiar ache wasn’t there anymore. She peeled herself out of the cocoon of blankets and put her feet on the floor. She felt the carpet beneath and the air around her. For the first time in a long time, she wasn’t numb. She bathed and dressed herself for the first time in days. She went to the kitchen and got a glass of water. She didn’t dare open the door beside hers; she knew what was behind it. As she was eating a small bowl of fruit, she looked outside at the sunshine.
Danny walked in, his hands full of grocery bags and he set them on the counter. He came over to his wife and kissed her forehead. “I’m glad to see you up and about. You look much better.” He said, coming up behind her and wrapping his arms around her gently. He pulled away after a few moments and put away groceries. That was the day the rhythm of their life returned and things moved on, minus one little soul.
The months went by and things got better or different really. She felt the things she was “supposed” to feel and did all the things she was “supposed “to do. Even packing away the baby’s things, in hopes of trying again one day; it didn’t hurt near as much if she didn’t have to look at them. She would still have dreams at night, feeling the baby inside her move and wake up sobbing. But Danny was always there, holding her and crying with her. She had him to lean on and make herself strong again.
It was the day she came back from the doctor, almost a year afterward that sent her head reeling and her world crashing. So many traumas had happened that day and in the days after. The pain, the loss, burying their sweet baby and her body had been scarred so badly. The scars she thought nobody could see were what hurt the most. The doctor had told her she would never be able to have another child. The scarring was just too bad and the risk too extensive. Even the likelihood of conception was slim. That was more than she could take. She could trudge through the night terrors and the familiar feelings that hurt so much, but this; it was too much to bear. She tore up the nursery, ripping things off walls, crashing the furniture into each other, screaming, wailing and finally just collapsing.
That was where Danny found her, after he found the papers on the counter. He scooped up his wife off the floor amid the broken things and put her to his chest. He made sure she was okay, checking her quickly. Once she was in bed, only then did he clean up. The papers had been forgotten, but in the midst of clean up, he dared look at them. He didn’t believe it at first, read it over and over trying to make the words make sense. The words sank in and he cried, sitting in the living room by himself. He cried for himself and the dreams they had. The tears fell for his wife and her pain, for their baby. He knew what this would mean to Marie and how it would devastate her.
This was a dark day that would mark their love forever. He held her and he thought back to that first day, her smile that dress; how breathless he had been when he said her name. He had just worked a double shift and knew against all better judgment that he should be in bed. He was still in his uniform when he strolled into the store where she worked, for some breakfast and nothing else in particular. She was helping another customer when he saw her, his milk and eggs in hand. She wasn’t the most beautiful woman he had ever seen, but the way she smiled, something about it just captivated him. As she rang him up, they smiled, but said nothing. He went on his way, not a word. But it was later that night after work, when he walked in to find her laughing in his dining room that really got him. “Who is your friend? “ He had asked his room mate Sarah tentatively. And when she turned and spoke, saying her name, he thought he couldn’t stand. Their eyes met and they smiled, it was like a fairy tale. From that day on they could never be apart, their hearts clung together and the whirlwind of love sped around them. Everything was so fast but so right, and when I love you fell out of his mouth, she felt it too.
He guarded her heart and made her soar; no one had ever loved her like Danny. She remembered the night that he asked her to marry him. There was not much fanfare, for at that point they both knew that this love was right. They were holding each other, about to leave for the night, so enamored with each other that separation was pure agony. She looked in his eyes and said, honestly and softly. “I love you so much; I don’t know how I could ever love anyone more. I’ve never felt this way before, and I never want to stop.” As she kissed him, she felt electricity through her body.
As he held her, he felt warmth like no other before. He finally knew what it felt like to love another with everything he had. “I love you too; I can’t ever see us not being this way. We should be married. We should make this forever.” As he held and kissed her, no words were needed. She just nodded and embraced him tighter. That is how their forever began. They were married by her pastor in his office with a few relatives a short time later. Just like their love affair, not too flashy, quiet and understated but very powerful.
From that day forward he worked hard for her, built their life together and loved every second. Nights cuddled up together on the couch were bliss, he finally found his home. It was her and it had always been. Days spent fixing up the house they bought drew them closer than ever before. And when they were done she had everything the way she wanted, down to the flowers in the window. It thrilled him to make her dreams come true. If she was happy, he was happy and that’s all he wanted. She was his dream come true, and all he wanted was a lifetime with her.
Marie couldn’t believe how lucky she was to have Danny. She told him that everyday, in every way she could manage. Special meals, romantic trips, and nights in the bedroom… oh those nights they both loved. He built her dreams with the work of his hands and that meant the most to her. When she talked, he listened. She finally knew what it meant to love something more than yourself, her husband, her sweet perfect Danny.
It was a natural thing to want more… to want children. To want their love to grow in her and to be born and grow up healthy for the entire world to see; this was the gift she wanted for him. He had given her so much and this beautiful act of love was the only thing she could thing to give him back. Their love would grow in her womb, so much of them and their life together, but so brand new and totally different. When they started trying, it wasn’t long until she was pregnant. She had all the usual signs and symptoms of pregnancy when the test finally turned positive. Lucky number eight and nine! When Marie told him she was pregnant, he held her and they cried out of sheer joy. This is what they had hoped for; their lives together were falling into place. He bought her a rocking chair and put in the spare room the night he found out. He couldn’t wait to be a dad and was thrilled as the doctors visits came and went all was perfect. She was growing by the day, swelling with their baby girl inside of her. He couldn’t contain his joy and desire for his pregnant wife. The love they made increased as her belly grew. She glowed with life and it was irresistible. He had taken on a part time job when they started trying for the baby, to make sure he could give her everything she needed. Nights were a little longer and they missed each other. But it was only for a little while, until the baby came.
The night was just like so many others, when she called him, crying, the blood coming and the pains frightening her. She was five months along then, in the pit of his stomach, he was sick because he knew that this wasn’t good. She had called an ambulance and been taken to the hospital. He was on the phone with his supervisors half the night before he cold get to her side. In the morning light of that dark dawn, he looked at her and he knew. That splendid life had slipped away within her, and he hadn’t been there. He cursed himself, so mad that he had betrayed her that way. From that moment on, he wouldn’t leave her. He would pick up her pieces somehow, he had to. He slowly and patiently helped her put her heart back together. They buried their baby and held on for dear life. Slowly the darkness of their loss faded until they could finally they could see the light and they felt more like them again. Their loved had survived and they were stronger for it. But when he found that paper and Marie laying there in that room, he couldn’t think of a next move. He did what he had done all along, but he knew that part of them was gone forever. He knew that things were different now.
From that day forward they would move on, just they two and love had to be enough. When he was alone, he would think about and wish he could change it. He prayed and begged, for years after. Nothing changed and they still loved so strong despite it all. He never stopped wishing and wondering what would’ve been. He knew his wife felt like a shell of a woman with no children. He prayed and he tried and waited. He would give her a baby somehow.
When she awoke, he was by her side. She managed to get the words out and they cried together. He wished he could lift her burdened heart and fix it. He always had been her rescuer, but this he could not fix and that tortured him.
The morning light was barely seeping through the windows when his eyes opened. He was in a fog as he sat up, groggily putting his feet on the floor. He hated being up this early, but for weeks now; he had awoken like clockwork to the first rays of dawn. As he bathed and dressed, he thought about Marie and what they been through these past few years, and how they had survived to be even stronger. Though they had been through such horrible things, they still loved each other so much. He knew the only thing that would complete them, was the one thing they couldn’t have, at least by conventional means. Adoption had been discussed a few times and then just dropped by the wayside really. They both ached for a baby of their own. He would give her the moon if that’s what she wanted.
As he passed her still sleeping form on his way out to the kitchen, he stopped, smiled and kissed her forehead, putting the blankets higher on her shoulders to fight the chill in the air. “Sleep my love, I’m about to change our lives forever.” He whispered before he left. With a quick cup of coffee and a bagel, he was out the door as quietly as he could manage. As he drove, he smiled, thinking about what he was going to do today. He pulled in and parked the car, picking up his papers, leafing through them. The paperwork said that the study was being conducted on the third floor, second entrance. He knew this wouldn’t be easy or pain free, but the love they shared was enough to get through this. She had been forever changed by an act of love those few years ago, and now so would he.
He walked through the door with an apprehensive breath and took a stack of papers that the lady behind the desk offered him. As he filled out his health and background information, he fidgeted nervously in his chair. Feeling a lump in his pocket, he remembered his phone was still on. He fished it out and shut it off, just like he was at work, where Marie thought he was today. The consent forms were many and the physical was very thorough. He was ushered to yet another room, finally able to put his clothes back on. He sat nervously awaiting the results of his tests and what was yet to come. He had gone through a lot of things today that he never imagined he would, and never wanted to again. The doctor in the lab coat whisked into the room, the chart in his hand, clanking it on the counter without much flourish and extended his hand for a stiff handshake. Danny was a little intimidated by all of this, but the man’s smile eased his nerves a little. The doctor sat down across from him and began to speak.”Well Mr. McKinney, all your blood tests seem to be in order and you’re in perfect physical shape for the regiment we are about to put you through. I just want to make sure that you know what this entails and I also need you to sign a few more forms. “He said, handing them to Danny who only nodded.
“You will be first put through a strict drug protocol, including injections. Upon completion, another battery of tests will be performed, to assess the results, if they are successful, which we hope they will, be, at that time you will go home to your wife and be able to conceive. This study could absolutely revolutionize medicine and obstetrics as we know it. Your first step in the protocol is to be injected today and every day after for 21 days and to take the pills provided 3 times a day.” These injections you can either administer yourself or have your spouse administer. Turn in the forms with the nurse and she will give you your medications and I will see you in three weeks Mr. McKinney.” He said standing and quickly leaving the room. As fast as he had come, it appeared, he was gone.
Danny stood in that room, filling out the last few forms as the nurse injected him and he winced a little. It actually hurt less than he thought. After he had swallowed the pills and drank the cup of water provided, he handed the forms to the nurse. She left the room and came back with a brown paper bag in her hand and began instructing him on the medications. After dosage instructions were given, she led him out of the room nicely. “We will see you back in exactly 21 days Mr. Mc Kinney, Don’t forget, your medicine must be taken on time every time.” She said with a wave as Danny left the room and walked out of the building.
He contemplated the weight of his actions as he drove home, first he was a little scared, but then he was full of joy for what was about to happen, for both of them. What he was doing now, even deceiving Marie for the sake of surprise would all be worth it when they got to hold that little baby in their arms. He would give Marie the child she couldn’t give him and he would finally be a dad. Once he arrived home, he stowed the meds safely away in the car, except for the pills, which he would tell Marie were antibiotics. She would freak over the injections those, so those he hid near the spare tire in the trunk. “21 days, I sure hope this works.” He said to himself before walking into the house to greet his wife. “Marie baby I’m home.”
Marie turned from the dinner she was cooking to kiss her husband.”Hi sweetie, how was your day?” She said, turning off the stove, and setting out the plates and silverware on the table, in preparation for serving her husband dinner. As she moved about the kitchen, she could hear him heading back to the bedroom to take his shoes off and change clothes. She poured them both a glass of wine and put the food on their plates, sitting down, waiting for him “I wasn’t feeling too well; I had to go the doctor today. He ended up giving me some antibiotics. Three week course, because you know how my immune system is honey. ” He said, emerging from the bedroom in clean clothes. “I have to take them three times a day and he gave me a shot too.” He said, kissing her and sitting down at the table, smelling the food. They clinked glasses and smiled, eating in silence, but so comfortable.
In the morning, He took his pills before heading out the door. He kissed Marie and went out to his car. Before he began his morning commute, he gave himself the injection and threw the needle away at a gas station. He knew all the sneaking around would be worth it. In three short weeks he would know if their dream was coming true. The days seemed to fly by and he even got good at giving himself the injections. Marie, of course doted on him, making sure he took his pills. He hated letting her think he was so sick, but he felt he didn’t have any other choice. Finally the day came that he looked at the calendar and 21 days were gone; He kissed Marie, like he did every day and headed straight for the doctor’s office to find out the results of this little experiment. He signed in at the desk and was ushered into an exam room within minutes. His nerves were starting to get the best of him as he waited for the doctor to come into the room
He fidgeted nervously, drumming a song on his leg that was playing in his head. He looked around the room for something to occupy his thoughts and the time between unknown and certainty, but found very little. The paper on the doctor’s table crinkled under the blue jeans he wore and he sighed. Running a nervous hand through his hair, he bit his lip and shifted his weight on the table. When the doctor finally entered the room, his whole body straightened taller, as if the weight was lifted off of him by mere sight of the doctor. Whatever the outcome, he reasoned; a yes or even a no was still an answer. “Hello Dr. Patterson, nice to see you again, I’ve been anxiously awaiting the results of this thing.” He said, with a nervous half smile.
“Well Mr. Mc Kinney, according to the blood work we have done today, your medication and hormone levels all seem on target. My nurse, Dr. Young and I will perform and exploratory ultrasound of your abdomen to determine the results of your protocol. If these results are inconclusive, you will be sent for further more extensive scanning.”He says, turning to nod to the nurse who wheels in the ultrasound machine and turns off the lights. “Lie back and lift your shirt please Mr. McKinney. This will be cold.”He said, the screen glowing into the room as he squeezed gel onto the man’s abdomen and glided the probe across his flat belly. He nodded to the nurse, clicked and typed, groaning and grunting occasionally as he performs the test. Dr. Young observed over the doctor’s shoulder and they conferred in hushed tones over the images on the screen. But they never looked at Danny or said a word to him.
It took a toll on Danny not knowing what the doctors saw flashing on the screen. All he could do was lay there and wait, as hard as it was, there was no other option. It felt like forever as the probe glided over his gel laden belly and the screen flickered in wordless aching silence. His breath in and out of his lungs felt like ice and his mouth dry like a scorching desert. When the doctor turned off the machine and the lights flickered back on, it felt like and eternity, but in reality it had only been about 45 minutes to an hour. After the nurse wiped the goo off of him, he straightened his shirt and sat up. “Doctor, the not knowing is going to give me a heart attack. Can you please tell me something?” He asked tensely.
“Well, Mr. McKinney, after consulting with my colleague and reviewing the images twice for certainty, it is our consensus that the protocol has succeeded. You should now be able to go home to your wife and after copulation, conceive and carry a child to term. You will be monitored every week for the duration of your gestational period by me and occasionally Dr. Young. You will now be taking a standard prenatal regimen to promote a defect free fetus; your hormones will be evaluated weekly. If need be, your levels will be supplemented with injections. I am very please with the preliminary results we have gathered. As the weeks progress, there will be new information to be assessed, we don’t want to overwhelm you today. We will give you boxes of tests on the way out, you take them twice a week, when one of them turns blue, you return to the office as soon as you can.” The doctor said, shaking his hand before he left the room and closed the door. Dr. Young nodded and followed closely behind.
The nurse handed him the boxes and the bottles of pills, having him sign a few more forms before explaining the dosage instructions and giving him a list of phone numbers. “If you experience any strange symptoms, you call these numbers. Have a nice day Mr. Mc Kinney.” She said before leaving the room herself. As she shuffled down the hallway, the door closed behind her with a thud and snapped Danny out of his whirlwind daze.
Danny sat there, trying to process all the information that the doctors had told him. The fact that he could now get pregnant produced a smile that wouldn’t leave his face. He stared at the things in his hands and took a deep breath. The prospect of a child for him and Marie was a little overwhelming. The joy within him radiated through his constant smile. As he left the doctors office and drove home, his thoughts were full of days to come. The crying and sleepless nights, the walking, talking and all those firsts, thinking of watching their baby grow thrilled him. As he pulled in the driveway and hid the medicines in the trunk, he forced the ear to ear grin off his face.
The roses and wine in his hand would surely make this a nice evening. He set the wine in the refrigerator to chill and put the roses in a vase. He knew Marie wouldn’t be home for a while since tonight was her yoga class. He ordered in dinner and spread rose petals through the house, into their bedroom and into the waiting hot bubble bath. She would be home soon and he was tingling with excitement. He hurriedly put music on the stereo when he heard her car pull in and the engine shut off. As she walked through the door he kissed her lips and held out a silk robe. “Hope you had a good day baby, because I’m about to make it even better.” He said, undressing her slowly as they crossed the room and leading her to the couch. As he eased her onto the plush cushions, his fingertips traced lines in her soft skin, making his blood pump faster. The silk against her soft skin drove him deeper into a state of lust for her. He let his lips explore her neck as he took the sweet scent of her into his nostrils and groaned. “I love you so much baby.” He said, his body quivering at the surge of pleasure that went through him as their bodies touched.
“Hi baby, my day was great; I’m always up for better.” She said, deepening his kiss and stepping back to let him undress her. The seconds seemed to drag on as he removed her clothing. She felt her heart skip in her chest as he came near her. The silk of her robe barely had time to touch her body before her husband’s hands were on her. Sliding down her body, caressing and probing with his fingertips, the smell of him made her dizzy with lust. She moaned softly at his breath on her skin. As she fell back onto the couch, she closed her eyes and smiled just a little. A small moan left her lips as he nibbled at her neck. She felt surges of heat and pleasure wash down into her, deeper and deeper as his tongue found all the right places.”MMM…Baby I love you too.” She said breathlessly. A knock at the door made them both snap out back to reality quickly. Marie covered herself, closing the robe and looked at her husband quizzically as she sat up on the couch.
Danny adjusted himself in his boxers quickly and retrieved his pants from the floor, thankful that he had on a undershirt. “I order us a little romantic dinner to celebrate my doctor’s appointment going well today.” He said with a sly grin. He opened the door and greeted the person on the other side. After taking the bags of food and paying the man, he waved and shut the door. As he arranged the food he had taken out of the bags, he felt Marie’s gaze on him across the room. He smiled tenderly as she came up behind him, wrapping her arms around his waist. “Hey honey. I think we’ll eat and have a nice bath tonight. I’ve missed these moments with you lately.”He said turning to kiss her. “Time to eat, the food smells delicious.” He said kissing her again. He pulled out a chair for her to sit down before he sat down himself. “Oh, I forgot the wine” He said, getting up quickly and going to retrieve the bottle and two glasses, extending one to her.
“We’ve been in need of a romantic night for a while.” She said as she wrapped her arms around her husband’s waist. “And the food smells so good, thank you honey.” She said, accepting his kisses. “Any reason is a good reason to celebrate our love.” She said, smiling back at him. She sat down in the chair he offered and began to eat. She held out her hand and accepted the glass of wine. They ate , looking up in the candle light at each other and smiling occasionally “I’m glad the doctor went ok for you today. No more pills for you I guess.” She said, sipping her wine, her eyes twinkling in the candle light.
“No more antibiotics, but I am going to start vitamins so I don’t get sick so often anymore. I’ll be happy about that.” He said, eating the last few bites of his food. When Marie was done, he took her plate and put them away and they enjoyed a slow dance together before he poured them another glass of wine and led her to the bedroom. “I have a nice bath waiting for us my love.” He said, the wineglasses beside the tub and leading his wife in. “Just for you baby.” He said, smiling. “What do you think?” He said fanning his arm to show off the scene.
Marie gasped in surprise as she looked around at the rose petals strewn everywhere and the candle light making the room glow. The sweet soft smell of the bubble bath hit her nostrils and she noticed even more rose petals. “Oh Danny baby I love it, It’s absolutely perfect. I love you honey.” She said, kissing him excitedly. She deepened the kiss before untying her robe and letting it fall from her body. As she stepped into the warm, sudsy water she let out a moan of complete and utter comfort. “This feels so good honey.” She said, leaning back against the tub to relax.
Danny watched his wife undress and slip into the bath with a smug grin on his face. If she only knew what this night was hopefully leading to, he thought to himself. He undressed himself and slipped in beside her, letting her head rest on his chest. He held her in his arms and relaxed in the warm water, he just couldn’t believe all that he had, and he was such a lucky man. He rubbed her back gently and then moved her hair and gently kissed her neck from behind. His kisses trailed to her other side and finally he turned her to face him and kissed her passionately. “Marie I love you, I need you every day for the rest of my life. I want you in every way possible. You are so beautiful. You are absolutely the best thing to ever happen to this hard working, clumsy in love, happy go lucky guy. I would do anything in the world for you. There’s nothing I wouldn’t give or get for you. I love you with all of my heart.” He said, brushing the hair from her cheek and kissing her again, tender and deep. His hands cupped the side of he face as he moved to be closer to her, still kissing her, trailing his kisses down her neck to her perky voluptuous breasts. With one hand he cupped a breast and the other he brought her even closer as he flicked her nipple with his tongue before sucking teasingly. He grinned devilishly before he took her nipple in his mouth again, sucking and nipping as she began to squirm.
She smiled at her husband’s warm words.”I love you too honey and I feel the same way.” She said, enjoying his kiss. She closed her eyes and let the sensation of his lips on her skin permeate her brain. She moaned “Yeah baby.” She muttered breathlessly, letting her head fall back. As his mouth worked on her, she felt moist heat and pleasure build between her legs. “Bed…now…” She managed to utter as switched to the other breast and trailed a hand down between her legs. “I need you...bed now.” She said, looking at him square in the eyes, biting her lip to hold back her lust.
Danny laughed a sly laugh as he picked her up in his arms, the water cascading off of them both and back into the tub. They dripped their way from tub to bedroom, the steam from the water rising off of their bodies. He kissed her passionately before placing her on the bed. “The sheets...” He said, looking at Marie.
“Don’t care…want you...” She said breathlessly, pulling him closer and laying him down beneath her. She was happy to find his erection rock hard and waiting for her. She scooted her hips up slowly, purposefully brushing the tip of him and eliciting a hiss of sensation from him, before she guided him inside of her. “MMM…I like that…” She moaned. As he reached up to cup her breasts, she arched her back, beginning to quicken her rhythm as she rode toward orgasm on top of him. As she leaned down to kiss him, she hit her perfect spot and screamed. “Baby!”
Danny grinned as he held her there, bucking his hips upward to hit that spot again and again. “You like that beautiful….you like that.” He said, grunting as he thrust harder. He held her steady when she tried to start moving away. “No, no, no sexy…you’re not going anywhere until I’m done with you. He said, grabbing her hips and reversing their position so that he was on top of her. He pulled his hard cock out of her and slammed it into her again, enjoying the sensation and the screams of pleasure it brought from Marie. He bent down and nibbled at her neck, kissing and licking at the hollow above her collar bone.
“Danny…Mmmm….baby.” She screamed, thrashing from the sheer intense pleasure. She gripped the sheets, trying to keep control and prolong the impending orgasm that was building to be more and more powerful. She couldn’t resist her husband and the things he was doing to her any longer. She wrapped her legs around his waist, driving him deeper and ran her nails down his back lightly, making him thrust wildly. “Yes….Danny…yes…” She said huskily, barely able to hold back the impending orgasm that threatened to rip through her.
As he thrust deeper, he groaned and grunted, threatening to explode with each thrust. He hissed as she wrapped her legs around him, driving more and more sensation into his brain. When her nails raked his skin, his hips bucked in frenzy, going deeper into the wet, constricting heat of his wife. He knew she was close to orgasm, he could feel her muscles tightening, threatening to ripple around his cock. He held her hips with his hands, focusing his thrusts where he knew they would count most. He felt her wetness slicken and drip and laughed devilishly. “Yeah sexy….so wet…so good.” He said, pumping into her faster, longing to drive her over the edge.
Marie closed her eyes and finally let go. As her body relaxed and his thrusts deepened and quickened, she felt intense, blinding waves of pleasure overtake her. “Baby…yeah…Oh Danny!” She said, arching her back and screaming, bucking her hips into him. She felt her muscles, tighten, contracting back and forth as waves of pleasure came faster and faster. “Danny.” She said, quieter this time as her massive orgasm began to fade.
Danny felt Marie’s muscles tighten around him, rippling over his dick and he pumped her harder. The heat and wetness combined with the vice of her pelvic muscles around him drove him crazy. “Yeah…baby…Marie…baby.” He said, stroking deeper and deeper into until he couldn’t anymore. He lifted his head and screamed as his semen shot out of him to signal his orgasm. With a few more thrusts, he lay gently on top of her, his breath heaving. “I love you baby.” He said, panting breathlessly.
“I love you too Danny.” She said, wrapping her arms around him. “That was amazing.” She said with a smile. They lay together like that for what felt like hours. Heartbeat to heartbeat and skin to skin. As Marie drifted off to sleep, she felt Danny leave the bed. She smiled because she loved him so much. He smiled too, but for slightly different reasons.
The next morning Danny kissed his wife and headed off to work like every other morning. He took his pills on the way to the office and put them away. So the days went, making love in the evenings and pills in the morning for weeks, until Danny started to wonder if he should go back to the doctor or not. He had taken almost a whole box of tests so far, at work of course, and nothing yet. He was starting to wonder if their dream would actually happen after all. If this would give them a baby or be a cruel joke. He was a man after all, trying to subvert nature and conceive, maybe it just wasn’t possible.
Yes I did. Thank you all for the great comments. Been working on the next installment but am also planning a baby shower and watching a newborn part time. After the shower i shoud be able to post something.
I am posting a little something until I have time to sit down and write more. thanks for your patience.
The next morning, he awoke as usual for work.As he dressed himself and got ready for the day, he tried to shake the sleepy feeling that still hung over him. His nerves were still getting the best of him. His queasy stomach forced him to have toast for breakfast and forgo coffee altogether. He kissed his wife sweetly and adjusted the blankets over her before he left for work. As he drove, he tried no to think about the fact that he still wasn’t pregnant. He had always been this way when he wanted something… impatient. As he pulled in and shut the car off, he had decided that this situation would resolve itself in due time, if he just found the patience to let it. Before he settled in to get some work done, he went into the executive bathroom and locked the door behind him. With a steady hand, he pulled the test from his pocket and took it. He had done this so many times before that he really didn’t think much of it as he washed his hands. When he reached for it and went to throw it away like every other time, he saw something out of the corner of his eye that stopped him cold and made him do a double take. This stick was not like the others, it was blue. Danny’s jaw dropped. He looked at the test it in his hand with disbelief.” Could it be….could it really be?” He thought as he fumbled another test out of his briefcase and took it. Thank God for too much coffee.
He set the stick on the counter, washed his hands once again and stared at the test on the counter. The seconds ticked by for what felt like hours as he began to pace, staring at his watch and then at the test, waiting. He ran his fingers through his hair and sighed before he looked at his watch yet again. “Come on, come on, come on.” He said, expectantly, bouncing on his heels anxiously. At the appointed time Danny watched in shock and amazement as the stick turned blue again, slightly at first, but then vibrant and undeniable. “I’ll be darn…Yes!” He said, grabbing both sticks and jumping up and down, dancing around the small room. Tears filled his eyes as it finally sank in, they would finally be parents, and their baby was growing inside him, just like he’d hoped for. “I’m pregnant….I can’t believe this…I’ve got to see Dr. Patterson.” He said, wiping away his tears, wrapping the tests in paper towels and tucking them in his brief case. Before he left the bathroom, he called the doctor’s office and made an appointment fore later that afternoon. He composed himself before unlocking the door and walking to his desk to return to work.
At his computer, he tried to work and get things done, but all he could do is watch the time tick by in agony. He buried himself in paperwork and emails as best he could, waiting for the afternoon to come. He smiled to himself every time he thought about those positive tests.By lunchtime he could barely sit still and hardly ate a bite. Finally he decided he couldn’t put it off any longer and threw his food away. He left a note for his boss and went to his car. It took twice as long to get to the office building today, he thought as he nervously drummed the steering wheel. But finally he pulled in and parked, going up to the third floor. He signed in and sat down after filling the specimen cup they gave him and letting the nurse draw his blood. The whole day had seemed to drag up to this point. When they called his name and led him back to an exam room, he felt like it had been hours. He sat on the exam table and waited for the doctor, who thankfully entered the room promptly.
“Mr. McKinney. I do believe I have exciting news for us all.” The doctor said, Setting Danny’s chart on the table beside him. “According to your entire results panel, you are in fact pregnant. Your hormone levels are absolutely on point and I am thrilled. I would however like to do an ultrasound to see what is going on in your abdomen and assure the health of the fetus.” He said, nodding to his nurse who once again wheeled in the machine and turned off the lights. “Lay back Mr. Mc Kinney and lift your shirt please.” He said, squirting gel on Danny’s abdomen and running the wand over it. The doctor hit buttons on the machine as he worked.Once he was confident that the fetus was healthy and age appropriate for the hormone levels he turned the screen to Danny. “That little oval of fluid is where your baby is, and that little jumping bean is your baby, a five week fetus from all indications and completely healthy. “ He said, his face softening with a smile. He turned a knob and the baby’s heartbeat filled the room. “You will be on a weekly injections schedule to keep your levels on target but you and baby are doing very well.” The doctor said before shaking Danny’s hand and leaving the room.
Danny smiled looking at his baby on the screen. He was so thrilled to see their future alive and well inside of him. “My baby… our baby…”He said softly as the heartbeat filled the room. The soft beating sound tugged at his chest and brought unexpected tears to his eyes. When the doctor shut the machine off, he wiped his eyes. When the lights came back on, he wiped the goo off his belly and held his hand there, cradling that tiny joy for just a moment. He accepted the pictures that the nurse handed him and looked at them with a smile. He winced slightly as the nurse injected him but it was over quickly. He gathered his things and left the building to go home and tell Marie the amazing news.

The drive home seemed incredibly undaunting, like nothing could touch his hapiness today. He knew that somehow, he would tell her and Marie would believe him. He felt it deep down, a sense of complete satisfaction, their lives were finally going to be complete. When he pulled in the driveway, he could see that se was already home and hear her splashing in the pool with some of their neighbors. his heart sank, just a little that he would have to wait to tell her. And then it hit him, he had no idea what to tell anybody else about the baby as his belly grew, up until this point it badn't occured to him that he should care. He swallowed his concern and smiled as he greeted Marie and the neighbors. "Hey honey, I'm home. Hi Carlsons, its nice to see you. Just let me go change my clothes and I will join you." He said playfully.
Marie's whole face brightened to beaming when she saw Danny walk through the gate. Her man was home and they could finally relax and have a nice time with friends. "Hey baby, I'm glad your home, thought it might be nice to have some drinks and a little barbecue. Why don't come on in, the water's great!" She sad, playfully splashing.
He bent down and kissed her tenderly, smiling as he pulled away. "You know, that sounds like the proper cherry to the sundae of a day i've had. I'll be right back beautiful." He said, going into the house to adorn himself in swimtrunks and shades
As he walked through the hallway of thier home, he caught a faint scent of cocktails and marinade from the kitchen, normally a pleasant thing to come home to, but today, his stomach turned instantly. As the nausea churned up his throat, he ran to the bathroom and made it to the tolkiet just in time to drop to his knees and expel everything in his stomach, roughly and quickly. After a few deep breaths and with blinking watery eyes he stood up and went ot the sink. After brushing his teeth and rinsing his mouth, he looked down at his still flat stomach.
"I guess you're finally doing what babies do huh little one?" He said, his hand rubbing the spot that had been scanned over earlier that afternoon. "Can you take it easy on your daddy please, at least until i can tell mommy?" He said, laughing lightly as he walked into the bedroom and pulled trunks and a tank top out of the dresser. As he walked out to the pool, water in hand he took deep breaths, willing his stomach to settle. He sat down and put his calves in the water with a sigh of relief.
Marie swam up to him, noticing that he looked a little pale. "Are youy alright honey? YOu look a little green so to speak. " She said, placing a hand on his thigh and staring up at him. She knew he could catch anything that was going around pretty quickly, he had always been like that.
"Yeah baby i'm fine, I guess lunch just didn't agree with me, but i'm ok. That just means no cocktails for me today until i feel better." He said, grinning nervously. Good one Danny, at least that is take care of for today, he thought. He put his bottle of water on the floating drink tray and slipped into the pool, wrapping his arms around Marie. "I've missed you." He said planting a kiss on her and holding her close. "While the Carlsons over there heat up the barbecue, why dont we just stay right here for a bit?"He said, stroking her cheek
"Ok honey, how was your day? sounded good from what you said." She siad, retreiving her drink from the floating tray and swimming back into hs embrace. As they sat in the water on the steps of the pool, she waited, listening expectantly.
"I got the most amazing news today sweetheart, You wont believe it! But, that can wait until we're alone." He said with a smug grin, trying to play off his nervousness. "I will tell you its a big deal. It will be a good thing for both of us." He said, staring at her, tryng to read her reaction by the look on her face. "Are you sure you can't tell me now, i'm dying to know, and you know how I am with surprises." She said, poking her lip out and feigning disappointment "Is it a promotion, a new job?" She said quizingly
"I will tell you later, I promise it will be worth the wait." He said, pulling her closer, trying to find the words to say ." Marie, do you believe I love you, and that I would do anything if i knew it would make you happy. I meean, our world is changing and shocking miracles happen everyday. Do you think thats possible for us." He said, huffing a deep breath.
Marie looked confused. "Of course I do Danny, you would give me the world in a second. And I love you too, with all of my heart. But id dont understand, what do you mean baby?" She said, looking at him with a furrowed brow. Danny sighed. "Nevermind my love. I will try and explain later. Dont you worry ok. Now, let's go help with this barbecue ok?" He said, taking her hand and leading her up the steps and out of the pool.
After they had dried themselves and changed into new clothes. The four of them sat around the patio, grilling and talkingf and laughing. The steaks and chicken and corn were so good that all conversation practically ceased as they ate. Marie brought out berries and whipped cream for dessert and the two couples loving fed each other as three of the four the chatted over cocktails, watching the sunset. With full bellies and tired bodies, the couples said their goodbyes and parted at dusk.
Danny lit up the fire pit for Marie to enjoy the light that was fading from the sky. They sat in the porch swing together, all cuddled up. "That was a great day honey. I dont know why we dont do that more often. I'm glad that you feel better and you were able to eat and everything. Okay, this is killing me...What's the big news, I can't stand it anymore. Tell me, tell me, tell me!" She said excitedly.
Danny smiled and kissed her softly." Okay, okay honey okay. He said laughing. and taking a deep breath. "Let's see, where do I start?" He wondered to himself. " I love you so much, just remeber that ok. Do you remember when i was sick a while back and that course of antiobiotics I was on? and the shot they gave me? And that article in the paper about clinical trials for male fertility?" He said, glancing over at her.
Marie looked at him, not quite understanding. "OF course honey, but i dont quite see what one has to do with ther other. What are you trying to tell me?"
He took another deep breath and began again, trying to get everything togetrher in his breain and out of his mouth before he lost his nerve, or threw up again. Or both. " I love you with all of my heart and I would do anything for you , you know that right? Well, what if i told you that those pills weren't really antibiotics and that I was in the clinical trial for three weeks and it was successful?" He said, wincing a bit, waiting for her reaction.
She only laughed in disbelief. "You almost had me there for a minute, so come on, whats the news?"
"Honey, I'm trying to tell you what the news is. Hold on, i'll be right back." He said, going in the house and retrieving most of the contents of his briefcase. "I'm telling you that the trial worked. The trial worked and I did it honey. I'm pregnant and we're going to have a baby." He said, handing her the tests and the ultrasound photos and paperwork about the trial. "This explains everything honey, the protocol and the results and all. Please believe me." He smiled at her lovingly but couldn't hide the apprehension on his face.
More to come soon....
